First page of JAYES MACKEY 1627 ~
The First book of the Jamestown Series
1689 Virginia
As Jayes tied the strings around several bundles of collected papers she felt a tear form and slowly fall from the corner of her eye. So much of her life, her past was recorded here onto these pages. So much pain, fear and above all so many tears of her life were being tied up and put away forever. Her simple words, preserved forever on this paper.
Jayes hoped that someday, her future generations would read these words. Learn how they came to be here in America. Know that their roots were planted firmly in Ireland and perhaps someday, even seek them out.
Jayes noticed a red stain on the corner of a sheet of paper. Her mind raced back in time to the many, many times she had written with bloody fingers.
At one time in life she was certain that she would be forgotten. As she placed the bundles of papers in the corner of the attic, she knew that someday, through her words, she would be remembered.
2015 Virginia:
Kayla had spent days cleaning out her Great Grandmothers house. The Virginia heat this time of year was unbearable. She could not imagine how people lived here. Earlier she had attempted to climb the small ladder that led into the attic. The heat took her breath away.
She had set up a small fan and waited until now to tackle the attic. She was almost done and would make the drive back to Idaho tomorrow. She was excited about the antiques and family treasures that she had acquired. A chest and hutch that had probably been in her family for generations would now someday be passed down to her grandchildren.
The drive was most definitely going to be worth preserving these treasures in the family. Her Mother had no intentions of saving anything other than photographs. She had instructed Kayla to merely- “clean it out- give it away. I don’t care!”
As Kayla climbed into the attic she lit a lantern. She was delighted to find the attic almost bare. A rocking chair, a couple wooden boxes and then her job here was done. She smiled and reached for one of the wooden boxes. As she lifted it the bottom fell out and out tumbled rolls of papers. Old newspapers she thought? She gathered up the papers and one by one dropped them gently to the floor below the ladder.
After she climbed down she realized they were old manuscript type papers. Old, very old and five bundles in total. The papers were stained with time and had become brittle. She took them into the kitchen and turned the light on. On the outside of the bundles, the pages were each dated. 1632, 1640, 1650, 1660, and 1670.
Kayla was in shock, and felt extreme joy at her discovery! The excitement she was feeling she could not explain. She uncorked a bottle of wine and went into the living room, sat down on her blow up mattress and began to read. She untied the string to the pages marked 1632. She noticed a stain on the first sheet. She wondered if it could be blood. She laid back and began to read……
